Hot Toddy

Next I'm going to talk about a Scottish drink called Hot Toddy. The drink is served hot,it's believed that hot toddy will help you cure cold on flu.Hot toddy can also help a person to relax, after a shock or before going to bed. That is accomplished by the alcohol. There are many opinions that where did the drink actually came from. The most known one is that The Hot Toddy came to Britain by India. In India, the juice of certain palm trees was called tari. The juice was made into a dark ,sweet alcoholic drink. The English people in India copied the drink by using spices, fruit and alcohol.
Later they introduced it in Britain. The main alcohol that is used in it is whiskey, but many different types of alcohol are OK.It has long been used as a home medicine. Many of the ingredients in it are cough mixtures and alcohol is used very often.Alcohol absorbes very quickly into the blood stream and is pain relieving.Citrus fruits are used in too.The vitamins in it have a reinforcing effect to your immune system. Some people say that sipping it slowly has a more beneficial, warming effect.Others say that knocking the drink back in one gulp gives a jolt to the system.

Recipe:

1 teaspoon of honey
2 fluid ounces of boiling water
1 1/2 fluid ounces of whiskey
3 whole cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1 slice of lemon
1 pinch of ground nutmeg

How to do it:

1. Pour the honey, boiling water, and whiskey into a mug. Spice it with the cloves and cinnamon, and put in the slice of lemon. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes so the flavors can mingle, then sprinkle with a pinch of nutmeg before serving.
